Dolpo is a virgin and divine land in Mid-Western Nepal. Dolpo is famous in the entire Himalayan Region for Lake Phoksundo, the deepest lake. Mother Nature created a unique and wonderful treasure like Dolpo, which is the shelter of many rare alpine living beings. The region offers opportunities to visit ancient villages, high passes, beautiful Lakes, isolated Buddhist monasteries and also to experience the vast array of wildlife inhabiting the region, including Blue sheep, Mountain Goat, Jackal, Wolf and the legendary Snow Leopard. Shey-Phoksundo National Park lies in the core of the Dolpo Region and is famous for snow leopards. This is a region with fascinating villages, tranquil environment and its breathtaking sceneries and yet is still a land of mystery. The arid valleys with their pastel hues offer a spectacular contrast to the semi-tropical lushness of other parts of Nepal. The altitude ranges from 8200ft (2500m) to 16,630ft (5070m). Trekking in the lower region takes you to Phoksundo Lake at 11,808ft (3600 m). |
